All You
Need to Know about Kelvin Probe
Kelvinprobe is test equipment that measures the functional
difference between the tip and sample when achieving the thermal equilibrium
state, and also marks the electric potential difference in its work and
external or internal applied voltage during the experiment. It is a non-contact, non-destructive experimental device
used to investigate the properties of materials. It is a highly sensitive
instrument used to analyze changes in the contact potential difference between
a metal and a given sample.
It has been assumed that the given materials Fermi level is
unchanged during the experiment; the changes in the Kelvin probe junction
contact potential differential can then be attributed entirely to changes at
the sample surface. Some terms may be expressed differently depending on your
knowledge: Fermi-level, surface potential, surface diode, work function,
corrosion potential, contact potential, and the other terms are used in this
article.
Experimentally we can say that Kelvin Probe needs
to be positioned, such a way that its tip touches the reference material so
that it measures the Single Electron Transistor Device. Based on this
experiment, the Probe has been converted into a highly sensitive tool for
analyzing the surface properties of materials. Metals, alloys, semiconductors,
and even insulators, are among the materials to which they can be applied.
The Kelvin test has two types;
- 2-wire
measurements
- 4 -wire
measurements
Connecting one lead to one end of the trace and the other end to
the other end completes the circuit and allows current to flow through the
metal when measuring resistance with an ohmmeter. Once the current is flowing,
the resistance will be calculated using the ohms law. The 4-wire probe
was originated to improve the overall quality of the products.
Equip-Test Probes have a testing kit that includes a Kelvinprobe, which we knew as the heart of any Test fixture. This probe
offers high-performance with the best quality and values. It also provides the
best possible available solution for everyone concerned to ensure the ROI for
our customers.
